Revision FaceLift: The Emotional Roller Coaster of Revision Plastic Surgery

One of the reasons I founded The NipTuck Coach, a plastic surgery consulting business was due to my own cosmetic surgery disappointment and my post-surgery emotional roller coaster. You can read about my facelift  experience and disappointing surgery results here.

My plastic surgery journey included, poor post-op care, poor communications and a less than desirable outcome. This fueled my insight into the psychological aspects of going under the knife, as well as what’s wrong with the plastic surgery industry today. I’m hoping to make a difference in patient communications.

I’m not new to the world of plastic surgery or the beauty industry.  I’ve worked in the industry for many years, have had dozens of procedures and have an understanding of plastic surgery beyond most lay people. Despite all of my knowledge and insider connections the outcome of my surgery did not meet my reasonable expectations or an agreed upon outcome. My experience with my plastic surgeon was less than stellar and I had no one to turn to for advocacy and support.

You are probably wondering why this happened and how I’m dealing with it. A plastic surgeon’s best referral is a beautiful outcome. No plastic surgeon wants to have an unhappy patient, or so you would think. The goal is to rectify a less than optimal outcome by good communications, acknowledgment from the surgeon that the results could be better, and finding the best resolution for the patient. If the surgeon feels he/she cannot meet the patients expectations, then its up to the surgeon to do whatever is in the best interest of the patient, including referring to a colleague, who may be more skilled for this surgery. Finally, working out agreeable financial terms.  (more…)

POPULAR TRENDS : PLASTIC SURGERY

What will be the most popular trends in 2012?

With new shows like Bridalplasty and media coverage on Mommy Makeovers.  I  predict that there will be an increase in Liposuction, Tummy Tucks, Breast Augmentation; all trending younger.  The 30- something and 40- something group is already trying Botox, Dsyport and  Xeomin and using fillers especially for lip plumping.

For nonsurgial facial rejuvenation HA Fillers, such as JuvedermPerlane, Resytane will continue to be popular. Since HA fillers are temporary, consider them a great alternative to permanent fillers. If you don’t like the look, you can always have it dissolved with a product called Hyaluronidase, which is safe to use.

Mirror Mirror on the Wall…

I have a love/dislike with this industry.. hate is too harsh a word.  I love all the new medical technologies and innovations. New skin care products are continuously evolving with  different forms of stem cells, new raw materials, and exciting technologies to combat aging skin.

I love this industry… a true love/dislike with the world of beauty.
Beauty is both on the inside and the outside…. You may look beautiful on the outside, yet be truly ugly on the inside..There is no surgical fix for ugliness on the inside…

Can our obsessions about our looks and aging actually be unhealthy? Where do we draw the line? How much is too much?  When do we just let go, be healthy, happy, and embrace aging.  These questions haunt me at times..

I love seeing women  who stop coloring their hair. and go naturally grey.

I meet many women in their 50’s who look fabulous and have never tried Botox or fillers.  Would their features look softer with a little injection? Sure it would… yet  they are not ready or prefer not to do it.  Do I really believe that when they look in the mirror that they don’t see the lines or wrinkles or  that they really don’t care? No! I don’t.

It’s a personal choice.. I choose to get my Botox fix, my fillers, laser, and cosmetic surgery.
